Collingwood CWA is delighted to be hosting a series of free workshops focused on wool craft: spinning, knitting, crochet and dyeing.
SORRY – these are FULLY BOOKED.
The series was born out of desire to escape the city during the pandemic which was impossible when Melbourne was in lockdown.
The Collingwood Children’s Farm is providing the space in the gorgeous old barn and instruction will be provided by the Hand Weavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria, a local craft guild with overlapping interests with the CWA. And of course, our members will be providing a delicious CWA afternoon tea.
The Collingwood Branch of the Country Women’s Association of Victoria Inc thanks the City of Yarra for its generous funding of this project for residents of the City of Yarra over 18 years.

In the summer months, COVID permitting, we meet at the farmhouse at the Collingwood Children’s Farm. The annual membership fee is $80.50 but there’s no rush to join up. Come to a few meetings and see what you think.

Thank you for the work of the State Control Centre managing emergencies over the bushfire summer 2019-20
It was our pleasure to make morning tea on Friday 14 February 2020 for the good people of the State Control Centre. Based in East Melbourne just up the road from where we meet, the State Control Centre is the hub of a network of incident control centres across the state.
As our fellow branches throughout Victoria have supported the efforts of their local emergency responders, we thought it appropriate to recognise the work of those based in our neighbourhood who worked so hard to support and coordinate action right across the state.
It was wonderful to meet with staff from many state services, and it was fascinating to tour the Control Centre with the Emergency Management Commissioner, Andrew Crisp.
Thank you for the work you do all year, but particularly we thank you for the huge effort over this disastrous summer. And we know it’s not over yet.
Melbourne’s foodbowl can’t be taken for granted
Rachel Carey from Melbourne University was a special guest at our meeting on the 29th July. She talked with us about the crisis facing our foodbowls and what must be done to protect agricultural land as it comes under increasing pressures.
We had a great turnout, including members from our sister CWA branches and our neighbourhood. Over tea and home-baked goodies, Rachel talked to us about the importance of Victorian farms in supplying food to all of us in cities and regional areas, and the alarming risks that are emerging to farm livelihoods and our local fresh food supply. Rachel is one of the authors of a new report that outlines a vision and roadmap for preserving Melbourne’s foodbowl for current and future generations as a fundamental building block in a healthy, resilient, sustainable and fair food system.
This roadmap was developed through a collaborative process involving a wide range of stakeholders. Five key areas of policy action underpin a resilient and sustainable city foodbowl – farmland protection, farm viability, water access, nutrient recycling and sustainable farming.
We will be doing more work to highlight this important issue across the CWA of Victoria and the wider community. Please email us if you would like to get involved.
