Farm to garment craft workshop series

Collingwood CWA is delighted to be hosting a series of free workshops focused on wool craft: spinning, knitting, crochet and dyeing.

The series was born out of desire to escape the city during the pandemic which was impossible when Melbourne was in lockdown. The series includes:

  • 29 May 1pm – 4pm – Spinning (learn to spin your own yarn with a spindle and view hand spinning demonstrations) – POSTPONED
  • 31 July 1pm – 4pm – Knitting (learn to knit a scarf – all materials provided)
  • – POSTPONED
  • 2 October 1pm – 4pm – Crochet (learn to crochet – all materials provided)
  • 20 November 1pm – 4pm – Indigo and Botanical Dyeing (learn the basics of indigo dyeing and utilise plant material gathered on the farm for botanical dyeing – one skein of yarn and one scarf provided, others available for purchase)

The Collingwood Children’s Farm is providing the space in the gorgeous old barn and instruction will be provided by the Hand Weavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria, a local craft guild with overlapping interests with the CWA. And of course, our members will be providing a delicious CWA afternoon tea.

The Collingwood Branch of the Country Women’s Association of Victoria Inc thanks the City of Yarra for its generous funding of this project for residents of the City of Yarra over 18 years.
